The Town of Canterbury is urgently seeking new members for the Historic District Commission. We are looking for 4-5 people who can be members or alternates. HDC members are appointed by the Selectboard and have a term duration of 3 years.

The main purpose of the Historic District Commission (HDC) is to guide construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of property in the Town’s two historic districts so as to preserve the distinctive character, aesthetic, and integrity of the districts. For a full description of the Commission’s role, please see the Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 13.

The HDC meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. to conduct public hearings on applications they receive. Members are also expected to attend training a couple times a year. You do not need to live in one of the historic districts to be a member. Click here to learn more about volunteering.
